A Pleasant Gator

I AM working on a piece for Illustration Friday's "PROTEST" that I'm pretty excited about, but this guy just popped into my head (and out of my pencil) in the form of a doodle during a meeting today, & insisted on being first. Actually, it was just that I was able to color it quickly digitally, versus playing around with mixed media like I am with the other piece. (Which likely won't be finished before the next challenge is up, but is too fun not to finish!!)

So there's really no rhyme or reason for the friendly, fascinated gator. He just is. Hope you like!

  1. Lol I don't usually find gators cute, but this one is! :) I'm glad you said he was friendly though, because I thought he was looking really happy about seeing an appetizer in front of him :)

  2. I'm a little nervous around gators(15 years in FL will do that) but this guy's great. He looks fat and well-fed, and as long as he's not gotten that way in my neighborhood, I'm cool with him.

Also, great contour lines on the gator... love the bumps down his back and the varying line width. Great job Mit!

  3. Love the composition and the happy, goofy gator adoring a tiny butterfly. The bumpy gator lines add a lot of interest and rhythm to the image, everything points to the butterfly! Nice job! Can't wait to see your "Protest".

  4. I didn't see gator as adoring the butterfly when I first looked, I thought he was contemplating eating it. Just the way I think. Sad,aren't I?

  5. Wonderful colors! And a gator that is somewhat rounder than one is used to seeing! Probably more jolly as well!
