Illustration Friday - SHINY
Albert's favorite part of playing cowboy was wearing the shiny tin sheriff's badge.....AND galloping around the living room on his trusty horse, Cheerio.

At first, I was stumped on this week's word: SHINY. The only things that came to mind were a nice, clean car (which sadly does not describe mine at the moment), or a bald head, polished to a sheen. Neither made me excited to pick up my pencil & start sketching.  But then I thought some more, & since I'm a girl who really appreciates her bling, I eventually started thinking about jewels....... and gold........ and diamonds........ and treasure.............and, well  I digress. I actually have no idea how the tin badge popped into my head among the jewels, but once I got a vision of Albert, no amount of gold could turn me back! I hope you like him as much as I do!!

  1. I love the enthusiasm in Albert's big eyes (and those of his trusty side-kick, as well). Very fun illo, and I'm glad you didn't turn back :)

  2. I like that you actually think of something for IF rather than making the word fit my current drawing or pulling something from the old bag. See? I will not be able to do a successful commission because I won't follow rules. I like how the idea came to you. The process is as interesting as the illustration which is adorable. Your drawing brings to mind many wonderful childhood memories. Thank you.

  4. Gosh, I liked wearing badges when I was kid, too. You nailed it!

I also had trouble with the word, and I thought it would be an easy one.

  5. Haha, so sweet! I love the expression on the horse (er, horse head). Oh my gosh, my car is not shiny either, nor has it been for ages. I should do something about that. Hehe.

  6. They all seem to be having so much fun... especially the pony.
must be some party when a body-less character is having such a great time.

Your storytelling is so much funner than what just a shiny car would have offered, and the shiny head is sorta cliche like, so bringing it to a wistfull view of yesteryear was a good call.

    nice

  7. Woohoo! They are having a thrill! (I can tell by the shine in their eyes.) The dog looks so happy … I bet he's going to give his boy a good face lickin' when it's over.

  8. Love it! So fun and lively; a great part of make believe is wearing the shiny badges. I like how everyone is having fun, esp. the horse head, and everything is nicely unified with texture/color/warm and cools.
