Illustration Friday - MELT

This is how I feel during bootcamp class. Like I'm melting.....I don't like to melt......  :D

Sometimes forcing yourself to take the time to do something you love is the best therapy in the world. I have been beyond stressed out lately, and feeling really overwhelmed with so many major events going on in my life at once. Today, as I was heading into a meeting at work, I quickly ran back to my desk & checked to see what the Illustration Friday prompt was for this week. It's been MONTHS since I've participated in an Illustration Friday challenge. First I had a deadline for a children's book I was illustrating. Then I needed to get back to the wedding planning I put off in favor of the book. And now, on top of the wedding planning, I am packing to move into a new house and studio. Lots going on. Not much time for the fun stuff. And for me, Ill Friday was fun.

But today I took that 30 seconds to go back to my computer & check out the prompt. I'm not sure why, but I'm glad I did. I've done it a bunch of times over the past few months, but never took the time to sit down and actually start drawing. Today was different. Maybe because I could feel I was about to reach my breaking point. I don't know. But as the dog above started to take shape on a piece of copy paper I swiped as I ran into the conference room, I got that feeling of excitement I get when I'm really, REALLY into what I'm creating. And it reminded me all over again why I do this.....and that I NEED to do it.....regardless of what else I've got going on in my life.

OK! That was a bit deep for me!
I think I should probably stick to drooling hound dogs! (I bet this guy STINKS!! :D )  But if he made you smile, please let me know in the comments section!

  1. Glad to see you took the break to make this dog though I wouldn't want to be near a tongue like that :) I understand all that running around and deadlines, but you're right, we need to do things for ourselves too. Good luck with all your projects!

  3. Heeheeheee!!! He DID make me smile! I love those eyes, too. This reminds me of my pup. He doesn't have a long tongue, but he loves to lick our toes like they're lollipops. And your jumping frog below sure is a lucky fellow. He's got a long tongue, too! Ha!

Wow, you sure are crazy busy. Good luck with your move. And wedding planning! I'm surprised you even had time to draw, but I'm glad you did.

  5. Glad you're still posting here, Mit. You gotta feed the Blog! Hey, we had two Basset Hounds growing up, they are great dogs, but of course, there are the jowls... they can make your pants look like a glazed donut.

    1. Bwahahaha!!! "Glazed donut!" My next door neighbor had one when I was a kid. Such a sweet dog, but yep. That is true!

  6. One thing I like about Blogger is, there is no lazy button, as in the 'like' button. Guess that's why I stick around here.

    1. See, I barely get any comments anymore. Since Ill Friday changed their website awhile back, I'm lucky if I get 3 or 4. I used to get 30 or so. Either no one bothers to follow me anymore, or they're too lazy to comment. At least when you get a like, you know someone SAW your post.

    2. Yeah, my comments are way down also. Many people have gravitated to FB, Tumbler and Instagram. But those all seem so 'fast food' to me. I know people are still checking out my blog, maybe not regularly, but they do. They just arent bothering to comment. The 'fast food' sites have sped everything up and killed the commenting. Nobody has time anymore, it seems. But I still like posting here.
