It is a myth that unicorns are peaceful, docile creatures.
They're actually quite nasty.
Not only do they terrorize woodland denizens, but they also have a penchant for popping balloons & bouncy houses at kids' birthday parties and have been known to stalk Lisa Frank.....
So this week, I had this fantastic idea for "MYTH." I wanted to do a minotaur (doing something unusual, of course!) Was pretty excited about it, actually. I started sketching during a particularly tedious meeting at work, but the minotaur just wouldn't come together for me. And I knew if I didn't get it done tonight, I wasn't going to get it done at all, with more pressing (read: paying) projects looming this week. So I flipped the page, & cranked out something I could draw with my eyes closed. A unicorn. My friend Phil had once said unicorns are not all cute & sweet, & I decided he was right. This one is certainly not all sunshine & rainbows!
As for the minotaur.....I still love the idea. Maybe he'll appear in a future blog....
Oooowwwww!! Wouldn't want to be that little bunny! Great scene...tons of action!!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice! Love the action and reaction, beautiful movement and it tells a great story! These look like book characters already.
ReplyDeleteHaha, good one! I love the idea of the cranky unicorn and I love your illustration!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a sharp horn on my head I'd stick something when I was having a bad hair day. Luckily I don't!
ReplyDeleteHoly man....I did a spittake at the Lisa Frank line! I would love to see a second panel with a unicorn shishkabob over an open fire....but, I'm twisted that way. Fantastic as always!
ReplyDeleteyou are right in my wheelhouse with this one Mit! Love this concept, characters, and your execution of it! Great job Mit, this is great!
ReplyDeleteYikes poor bunny!! I wish I could draw a horse/unicorn with my eyes closed :) I imagine if you had a huge horn on your head you would be pretty hard and do as you pleased, I guess that is why rhinos get such a bad rep - but unicorns are so pretty, they can't possibly be mean! :)
ReplyDeleteOk, I will accept your assertion that some unicorns are nasty creatures, if you will accept that some are wonderfully beautifully kind and just like all those nice stories say they are. ;)
ReplyDeleteI really like this illustration, especially the added little landscape details! Very action-packed scene!
Ha, ha, ha!!!!!! Amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha! No one ever told that little bunny to never play leap frog with a unicorn...poor thing!
ReplyDeleteOh! Poor little bunny!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful Illustration, love their expressions and it's full of action and details.
