Self-sufficient Seymour slid on home with his snack.
This week I thought I'd mix it up a little, & instead of adding all the color digitally, I had some fun playing with watercolor & colored pencils (with a digital background) for a more textured look. (AND to keep me away from the computer for a bit, due to the dizzy spells I've been getting during the past few days!)
I toyed with the idea of doing a realistic, serious pen & ink stipple of a draft horse in harness, but in the end went with whimsical little Seymour. I mean, if my goal is to make you smile, he was a better bet than a horse toiling away, and in black & white, no less! But I'm sure some week, if the stars align, & I have both the time, & the right theme, I'll stretch my legs with a complicated pen & ink piece...but smiles will not be guaranteed! ; ) As always, I appreciate your visit & your comments!
You're right...going the whimsical route was the way to go. It brought a big smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteLove the texture and colors!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I think Seymour was a great choice - that strawberry really looks heavy!
ReplyDeleteI love Seymour!
ReplyDeleteSeymour looks positively self-satisfied! Love it!
ReplyDeleteVery cute, and not what I would have expected for "hitched"! I would LOVE to see a pen & ink drafter in harness though :)
ReplyDeleteSeymour rocks, Mit! And I just love that you've worked with watercolors and pencils..the texture works beautifully. What a proud snail he sure is. : )
ReplyDeleteI love little Seymour's positive attitude.
ReplyDeleteSeymour is cute. I love the watercolors and the fun mood.
ReplyDeleteOyah! I love your style. This illustration is full of mirth. I LOVE strawberries. We have a few plants in our yard. I read this about strawberries:
ReplyDeleteOn the average, there are 200 tiny seeds in every strawberry. If all the strawberries produced in California this year were laid berry to berry, they'd wrap around the world 15 times. That's enough strawberries to provide every U.S. household with 12 pint baskets.
Respondents to a recent national survey labeled strawberry lovers as "health conscious, fun loving, intelligent and happy." Non-strawberry lovers, on the other hand, were described as "weird, boring, stuffy--picky, fussy eaters who avoid healthy foods."
BWAHAHA!!!! I guess its a good thing I enjoy putting strawberries in my smoothies every single morning! I would HATE to be described as "boring!" (Though I'm perfectly fine with "weird" and "picky!") Thanks for sharing, Ces!!! I think I need to go add a few seeds to my strawberry painting! ;)
DeleteBy the way. I love that horse on a bucket.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteNice piece. Glad to see you getting back to your traditional roots. All good!
ReplyDeleteOh so cute! I really like the sunset swirl of his shell, and that adorable face! So seriously adorable to have him pulling a giant strawberry (giant compared to him, anyway)! Also, hooray for mixing up the color techniques!
ReplyDeletehehe! good one!
ReplyDeleteOoooooo! I love the snail, so happy. I can also totally understand why he'd be carrying a giant strawberry...big favourite in our house. Love the colouring too.
ReplyDeleteDoes the snail arrives in time! lol
ReplyDeleteA mixture of techniques worked out really well!
Great image! Nice change of techniques. I am thinking of doing the same just to get away from the digital a bit. Wonderful result, and such a happy snail!
ReplyDeleteLove the texture and satisfied snail smile! Great!!
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteHI Michele--fun image and great colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great comments!! :)
ReplyDeleteYup, ya got big smiles from me. He's absolutely adorable! I'd certainly be happy with a delicious, huge snack like that. Hope your dizzy spells have gone away. :)
